1. Libya - Wow! Can anyone believe what is going on there? I would have bet that due to the vicious brutality of his regime, people would just not rise up - here is a retrospective from Der Spiegel of Ghadaffi's reign of terror - and that good old "Ghadaffi Duck" would have been insulated from the "unrest" sweeping the Middle East. Guess not....

I forgot where I read this, but one commentator stated that if one has concerns what will happen in Egypt now that Mubarak is gone, the military is in control, and the Muslim Brotherhood is lurking - the concerns about Libya are much deeper since in Libya there is Ghadaffi (Gadhafi, Gaddafi, Qaddafi: How the heck do you spell this guy's name? - By Chris Suellentrop - Slate Magazine) and his thugs, and nothing else. At this point, I do not see how the despicable bastard hangs on much longer - international pressure is mounting by the moment (even Obama has roused himself out of his reverie for this one) and his own people are deserting or defecting in droves. And if he goes - hopefully as a martyr (as he vows) though I think as a cowardly chicken is more likely - then I think the pressure on the mullahs in Iran goes through the roof - and the protesters will not be left twisting in the wind (in more ways than one) as they were last time.

And if Iran goes, what will that mean for Syria and the Iranian rent-a-terrorist franchise programs operated by Hamas and Hezbollah? Fascinating stuff to ponder - too bad that the people paying the price on the ground are average citizens set upon by their own security forces (though it has been suggested to me that there are likely a lot of Cuban and Venezuelan mercenaries and thugs operating in Libya).

For a reminder of another time, place and circumstance when people made the supreme sacrifice, see Pajamas Media - The White Rose: An Anniversary of Three Executions.

Of course, at the end of the day, to me the biggest question is - what does all of this mean for Israel?

Here are a variety of links on Libya:

3. What's Going On In Egypt? - interesting question! Here are some answers:

This is worrisome......to say the least:

4. Iran - I don't care what Imadinnerjacket (Ahmadinejad) says - Ahmadinejad: Mideast upheaval will spread to West - the ruling theocratic gangsters of Iran have to be sitting on "shpilkes" - these days. So, let's remember a few things:

5. Good Perspectives - it is obviously too soon to be doing retrospective pieces on the seismic events (figuratively speaking - condolences to New Zealand on its real seismic events) in the Middle East, but here is a good early analysis - The Arab revolutions of 2011 are more like Europe in 1848, not 1989. - By Anne Applebaum - Slate Magazine. This is also a good piece about the changes in Egypt - Plus ca change.

7. I'm Not Sure I Understand - The Obama Administration and the Taliban : The New Yorker - forget the issue of whether this is or is not a good thing - I wonder why things at the highest level of government that are expressly "secret" rarely remain so. Who leaks this type of stuff and why? Are they ordered to by their superiors? Are they following their conscience in some fashion - to build support for something or to sabotage it? Are they doing it for personal profit? What constitutes a true secret anymore? What is the limit of the public's right to know? Lots of questions - but no answers!!

8. Messing With The Wrong Marine - OK - Representative Allen West (R-FL) was a decorated Lieutenant Colonel in the Army, not the Marines (though I believe that his mother was a civilian Marine employee, his father served in World War II and his brother served in Vietnam). Whatever - some CAIR moron was obviously messing with the wrong guy as is obvious from this video:

9. Medecins sans Frontieres - Coincidentally, the day after a good friend told me about this story - Doctors without scruples - I saw fundraisers for MSF on Spring Garden Road. MSF denies everything of course, but I am not convinced - look at this article for example, which is written by someone from MSF. Sorry - my money goes to Israel.

11. A Pair Of Deuces - Did Jimmy Carter Reach Out to Helen Thomas During Her Scandal Last Summer? Commentary Magazine. Throw in Rosie O'Donnell, and you've got an unholy trio - all you need is Michael Moore and you have the 4 horsemen of the Apocalypse - OK - three horsemen and a dinosaur.

12. Wisconsin - Interesting stuff going on in Wisconsin in a battle between unions and the State Government - what's the big deal - didn't the Packers just win the Super Bowl?

14. And Its Cousin - Political Correctness: In my opinion, most of political correctness is trying to say something in such a way that you are really saying nothing - so not one can possibly get offended. The result is that no serious issues can be properly addressed.

16. There's A Special Place In Hell - the famous Italian poet Dante (of Dante's Inferno fame) famously said The hottest places in hell are reserved for those who in times of great moral crises maintain their neutrality". I hope that there is an equally hot place reserved for Noam Chomsky and his acolytes - Noam Chomsky Calls Elie Wiesel “One of The Major Frauds of Our Time” | NewsReal Blog.

  1. Great collection, haven't finished reviewing everything, but have seen all the videos, the articles on PC and its cousin multiculturalism. Agree with you about Chomsky, and love the personal comments about the 3 horsemen and the dragon. Too bad that you aren't writing for the Chronicle- I'd dare them to print your well reasoned and researched point of view. Thanks again for doing this.
