1. What Does A Scotsman Wear Under His Kilt - I have no idea. And with no disrespect at all to some of friends who wear kilts on occasion, I do know that the Scots who made this decision have no "cojones". But at least I know where I can get a replacement copy of The Protocols Of The Elders of Zion.

Heinrich Heine, the German poet who lived in the early part of the 19th century, wrote (there are various versions of this) - "Them that begin buy burning books, end by burning man".

Banning books ain't much different, in my opinion.

2. I Want To Be A Rock Star! - there's just one problem. I can't sing, I can't read music, and I cannot play an instrument. But I really want to be a rock star.

However, if I am Mahmoud Abbas, none of that is an issue. He wants what he wants, and he won't let little stupid things like not having the basis of a state get in his way. He "heads" a population that should really be citizens of another contrived state (Jordan - dating back to the era after World War I), there is no meaningful national infrastructure, they won't bargain in good faith - in short, they do not want to do the heavy lifting that comes with nation-building - they just want it given to them.

For readers in Canada, I'd say the Palestinians (aided and abetted by their supporters) have DDD - Dave Dingwall Disease - "I'm entitled to my entitlements".

Mahmoud - here's a suggestion - want to know how to build a state - look at what the Jews did next door - Not Stealing Palestine, but Purchasing Israel - Daniel Pipes - National Review Online - even as you and your buddies tried everything possible to disrupt and destroy it.

Anyway - here are some links to consider:

7. Peace Partners - Version Whatever #4 - Abbas’ Fake Honor Killing Outrage | FrontPage Magazine - where are all the feminists on this stuff?

11. Sad Anniversary - 70 years ago today, Nazi Germany invaded the Soviet Union in Operation Barbarossa - unleashing one of the most vicious wars in history with enormous death and destruction on both sides - Operation Barbarossa: Orgy of rape and genocide launched by Hitler against Russia | Mail Online.

And - of course - with devastating results for the Jews of the Soviet Union.

15. Syria - the media seems to have averted its eyes for the moment.....

16. Kiss & Make Up - Forget the obsession with Iran and Hamas - you want a friend? Stick with Israel. Israel and Turkey holding secret direct talks to mend diplomatic rift - Haaretz Daily Newspaper | Israel News PS - good thing the talks are "secret"!

18. Tribute To The Big Man - Clarence Clemons, a member of Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band, died this week. Here is a tribute to this rock and roll star. Rest in peace, Big Man.

  1. Item #11. Allow me to recommend Everything is Illuminated, an excellent book and movie which refers back to this very dark period in Soviet history. This story is very similar to my late mother's who survived a massacre. She was lined up with others in front of a pit where a firing squad was aimed at them. By some miracle she survived because she must have fainted before the bullets struck. Later that night she woke up and climbed out from under the pile of bodies. An old peasant woman hid her behind some kindling next to the fireplace so when a house search for hidden Jews was conducted, my mother was not discovered. My mother made it back to Odessa somehow, even though she had no memory of it. There she collapsed in a hospital and eventually she returned to the frontlines to serve as a field doctor.
