1. To my mind, the biggest story continues to be the "fallout" arising from President Obama's speech in Cairo last week. Here are some more reflections - from Charles Krauthammer, George Friedman, Michael Totten, admitted former terrorist Walid Shoebat, as well as well-known blogger Fjordman. I find all of these articles quite interesting - the analysis in the Friedman article especially captivated me.


2. The next biggest story that for some reason seems not to have generated as much coverage is the victory of the pro-Western side in the Lebanese elections. Some people claim that this is at least partly the result of the President's Cairo speech - personally I find the suggestion ludicrous. Regardless, it is obviously much better that the Hezbollah side did not win.

A comment that I find amusing, for lack of a better term, is that of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah - "We accept these results...with sportsmanship and in a democratic way and we accept that the ruling camp has achieved the parliamentary majority." My guess is that Hezbollah, Syria and Iran are even now trying to figure out how many political opponents have to "have accidents" to change the balance of power.

4. Tomorrow is Election Day in Nova Scotia - every indication is that the NDP will form the government for the first time ever.

5. On the basis that no one was hurt, here is my positive story to end this posting - this would throw into doubt that whole "man's best friend" thing.
